Every hip tech company usually has a list of their “values”. Sometimes it is meaningful, other times it is but a phony list of things that you wear as an emblem but never live by.
One of my favorite value post is by the Browser Company: Notes on Roadtrips
The goal of values is to shepherd the employees into a value system where they’re the most productive.
Usually these values are great for teamwork and generating maximum “shareholder value”. When you’re confused, refer to values.
But what happens when you step out of that office door? Where do you sheperd yourself when your corporate overlord is no longer watching?
We then follow a ever set of values, mostly not written anywhere. If you’re going to follow something for life, might as well write it. Writing it makes it real, and helps you improve it over time.
Here is a running list of checkposts I have defined for me to come back to.
